Faster than a speeding shutter (1/400)

This bird was sitting calmly on the perch when I depressed the shutter. This flash of feathers was its reaction to the pre-flash on my SB-800 speedlight. Note to self: Turn off pre-flash if you want the bird to remain where you saw it!
